Artist Statement

Jeannette Jackson is a textile artist with many interests which inspire her work. She enjoys researching and making links before working on a body of work, mainly using natural fabrics with both hand and machine stitch. Having visited Japan several times, she has an extensive knowledge of Japanese textile traditions and techniques, along with a collection of vintage Japanese fabrics which she enjoys using in her work.

Currently her work is inspired by walking in the area around her home on the edge of the Peak District. Through recording and collecting images, words and found materials, she has reconnected with the local environment and is now exploring the use of natural processes, such as the eco-dyeing of fabrics and threads to use in her work.

Cass works mainly with a variety of fabrics, preferably natural and hand stitch, but likes to experiment with a variety of surfaces and techniques including felting, collagraph prints, paper, rust dyeing and cyanotype. Work is built up in layers collaged with stitch to form a composite image. Occasionally machine embroidery is used. Working mainly from a theme a series of work is produced.

Marion’s interest in textiles is eclectic and this is reflected in her work which ranges from needle felted landscapes, rust dyed slow stitch, layered organza pieces to collagraph prints. Within each process she strives to create different surfaces and backgrounds to embellish with hand or machine stitch. Whichever process she uses, it is design led and she maintains a high standard of craftsmanship.
