Artist Statement
Derbyshire-born painter Helen Perkins is a professional artist, and has worked and exhibited across the country.
She is self taught, with much valuable input from established Royal Portrait Society painters, and many others she has met both in her time in the Lake District and in London.
As an artist, she has a particular interest in painting people from real life, and in capturing the colours and tones she finds in natural daylight. She aims to paint in a 'painterly' way - both in a way that seems realistic and which celebrates what it is to hold a brush in your hand.
Her portrait work has previously been selected for exhibition by the Royal British Artists and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, as well the Society of Women Artists.
Helen paints predominantly in oils. She also works in charcoal, graphite, and coloured pencil. For portraits, she is happy to travel to sitters, or to welcome them to her Derbyshire studio.
