Artist Statement
My work starts on the wheel, which brings life and energy into clay. I have been working with ceramic materials and processes for most of my career and I feel comfortable using them expressively, but it is always with a sense of wonder at their unpredictability. Every step, every mark, pour or dip is different, slightly, either because of material density or heat variation.
Sometimes perfection emerges from the kiln, complete and already remote from me. Although it bears my fingerprints, the magic, the creation has happened in the fire.
