Artist Statement
I am widely known for my expressive textured landscapes of Derbyshire and beyond and for my depictions of the sea. My work is semi-abstract, occasionally abstract, and is drawn from observation, trying to preserve the emotional memory of the experience and balance tone and colour. My work varies in size from 12" x 12" up to pieces that are 75" on one or all sides. I exhibit across the United Kingdom and have successfully exhibited at The Mall Galleries, Pall Mall, London. I am a member of the Peak District Artisans and exhibit with them at venues within Derbyshire such as Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and The Devonshire Dome in Buxton. I have a very strong interest in drawing and experimenting with mixed media. This continues alongside my oil paintings and gives me a chance to 'play' and experiment. Something that is vital to all artists in order to keep work fresh. I often offer workshops to local art societies and other groups on this aspect of my work. I am also an oil painting tutor. I also like to support local charities and in this capacity exhibit at Art Fair Cheshire, in support of The East Cheshire Hospice the latest fair is being held i26 May/ 5 June 2022 at Macclesfield Town Hall.
About half my completed work is commissions. I am happy to undertake a wide variety of from charcoal drawings to paintings, usually landscape, although I have also painted a large number of portraits. Often I am asked to paint a particular landscape or seascape. I have also painted several large abstract pieces to commission taking account of the customers wishes and colour scheme. In all cases I to do my own sketches and research and keep my client informed of progress with regular updates.
