Artist Statement
Gilly Gostick
I live in New Mills, and draw and paint, using a variety of media.
Throughout my life I have been creative, but there have been periods when other responsibilities have sometimes pushed my creative life to the edges.
Since retirement I have been able to take making art much more seriously.
Largely self-taught, I have also really benefitted from attending local groups and tutored art classes, and am grateful to all the local artists who have encouraged me.
I am also a keen gardener and have an allotment - working my soil organically, and trying as far as possible to work in harmony with nature.
I share my home address with many wild birds and animals which I welcome, and with a few which I sometimes don’t !
My art work reflects my love of nature, and often focusses on my local surroundings and home life.
When possible I like to draw from life, but during the last two years I have also sometimes worked from my own photographs and memories.
