Artist Statement
I am a professionally trained artist, based in Derbyshire. I studied sculpture and fine art drawing and painting in South Wales, before returning to Derbyshire completing my BA (Hons) in 2009. Although I started out as a ceramic sculptor, I haven’t always had the space to house my kilns. However, it was this setback that led me to explore my creativity through different mediums and once I discovered oil paint I was hooked. I feel blessed to live in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside, but having lived by the sea for many years, I have a deep love of the British coast. Therefore, seascapes also feature quite heavily in my work. Being out in nature makes me feel alive, bringing a heightened awareness, and energy, engaging all the senses. I try to capture something of that feeling in my semi abstract landscape and seascape paintings. I hope that others will recognise something of that feeling, or connection through my work.
