Helen Domleo - 58i

Location: Sudbury / Genre: Eco Sterling Silver Jewellery

Artist Statement

Helen Domleo’s work is inspired by leaves, seedpods and other natural forms. Her work is crafted out of textured and hammered silver, which is then sawn and shaped either into delicately patterned leaves, fold formed into seedpod or other organic shapes.

Once the basic shapes are sculpted, hand-made findings are added so that they are an integral part of the piece and enhance the beauty of the work.

Helen's work is influenced by the time she spent working in the Southern African bush as an Archaeologist, as well as time spent traveling in Australia, South East Asia and various other parts of the world. Helen also worked as the Ethnologist at Museum Africa, where she was fortunate enough to work with many amazing hand crafted ethnographic items, which have provided a wealth of inspiration.

She regularly teaches jewellery-making classes, which she loves and finds inspiring because it gives her the opportunity to explore her medium, whilst helping pupils create pieces they love and enjoy wearing.
