Artist Statement
My handcrafted pieces are individually formed allowing the nature of the clay to dictate the freedom of form, resulting in beautiful unique pieces with some delicate imperfections at times. My work is created in my home studio where I can escape and get lost in the beauty of clay and how it makes me feel. I both throw and hand build my pieces which allow the elements of the Yorkshire coast to influence not only the clay body but the texture and colour pallet of my work. Some pieces are simply oxide or glazed to let the form speak for itself and some are highlighted using metal lustre, whilst others are more playful with bright colours using different glaze techniques and decals. My work is ever evolving, I’m on a journey of discovery which is very exciting to explore. Just like the moving tide and the treasures a sandy beach can hold.
