Artist Statement
The Ecostitchers are:
Allison James, a contemporary quilt artist.
Maria Newman, maker of modern quilts and fine textiles with a quirky twist.
Jan Novitzky, a contemporary textile and mixed media artist.
Jude Shore, a contemporary textile artist and fine felt maker.
Liza Smeeton, a mixed media textile artist.
We are based in and around Sheffield and the Peak District.
In trying to work in an environmentally conscious and sustainable way, we are adopting the principles outlined by the movement for action against climate change.
In our work:
We resist where possible buying new fabrics to work with.
We repurpose, reuse and recycle our materials- old clothes, old bedlinens, old curtain, fabric off cuts, fabric scraps, old yarns and threads, paper, card etc.
We rehome materials and fabrics unwanted by other people.
