Artist Statement
Over the last few years my work has centred on the development of weaving using a variety of unusual structures, along with the integral use of acrylic sheet. As it has progressed, I have created my own ways of working; no longer using traditional techniques I have found my own way, developing a new set of rules to inform the process.
Compositions are constructed from repetitions of a single unit. Often starting with a two-dimensional frame, it builds upon itself, creating three dimensional structures forming patterns of stability between the various entities.
During the development of 'Constructs', as a mixed media artist, I used a purely experimental approach and I saw how it was possible to ‘construct’ exciting and unusual pieces of work. Not only that, I saw how my life was also reflecting these developments and I found myself ‘constructing’ new areas in life as well.
Lately we have found ourselves often living rather solitary lives and my experiments took a different direction. Walking in the park, instead of chatting to others, I started to become fascinated with Autumn forms, like fir cones, seed pods, nuts and naturally dried plant forms and soon started experimenting, weaving in boxes, and encasing the dried forms.
Making this work has surprised and delighted me – how special and beautiful everything is when isolated. It gives a chance to explore and see in greater depth.
It is ‘A point of View – My perspective’ a response to finding myself living in isolation and the perspective I developed.
2022 at The Willows 9 artists will be exhibiting their work. We are all looking forward to welcoming our visitors - to meet the artists, to chat about the work and relax in the garden with a drink and a piece of home made cake.
